Became the first Printing Museum Director. Held the exhibit "Shokeimoji Yugyo (A Journey through the world of hieroglyphs)" at the Museum's P & P Gallery.
Published a book "Mojishigen: Shokeimoji Yugyo (Origin of Charactors : A Journey through the world of hieroglyphs)" (Tokyo Shoseki Publishing Co.) describing Kanji (Chinese characters) hieroglyphic development history.
Traveled to the United States to gather material on petroglyphs and pictographs. |

Mainichi Design Award and the Special Prize were awarded to director Awazu and Toppan Printing Company for their works on the Printing Museum.
"Insatsu Hakubutushi (History of Printing)" was completed and published.
Traveled for the second time to the US, this time to Four Corners in the American Southwest, to gather more information on prehistoric Native American petroglyphs. |

N.A.R.A Expedition, composed of Awazu, young photographers and other members, held an exhibit titled "Rock Art: Myths and Imagination" at P & P Gallery of the Printing Museum in Tokyo. This exhibit was a culmination of the expedition's 2 year-long information gathering trips and research.
"Rock Art", edited by Kiyoshi Awazu and N.A.R.A Exhibition, was published by Printing Museum/Film Art Publishing Co.
Two separate workshops were held relating to the above exhibit:
1) In "Improvisation of Images and Sounds" (Daikanyana Hillside Plaza in Tokyo), Awazu performed live painting while musician Ayuo Takahashi played improvisational music (Takahashi was the music director for the Rock Art Exhibit.)
2) In "Rock Art Live"(Aoyama CAY in Tokyo), Awazu collaborated with poets and musicians to create exhibition events. |

Awazu again collaborated with people from various genres and generations. Gaining inspiration from this crossbreeding, he tried many artistic methods.
In August, at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial, Awazu held a hieroglyphic/ rock art workshop titled "Draw, the Origin of Art !"
Also held Kiyoshi Awazu Exhibit at the Aomori Contemporary Art Centre.
Awazu performed live drawing with musicians during the above two exhibits. |

| He continued to produce posters and book designs and started working on the monument project for the center patio of the Osaka Peace Center slated to open in 2005, the 60th anniversary of the end of the Pacific War. |
